Brief Introduction

 First Word Vomit-

Hey:),

So this is just an experimental post to make sure everything uploads properly! I'll start by introducing myself: my name is Lisa Dang and I'm a freshman attending the University of Southern California. Currently, I'm in my spring semester and I couldn't be more excited for my new classes:D. I was born in Santa Ana, California (OC), but I've lived in a few states over the course of my life. Besides California, I've lived in Indiana, Texas, and Arkansas. Right now, my parents live in Northwest Arkansas along with my Aunt and her family. Most of my mom's side lives in Westminster, California. Fun fact, Westminster is a very Vietnamese area inspired by the city Saigon in Vietnam--hence its nickname "Little Saigon". I recommend for anyone to visit for some authentic Vietnamese food and a lively atmosphere complimented with yummy boba shops:)). That's all for now in this brief introduction! I can't wait to share more experiences through this blog:).

 For today's blog, I will be reviewing a primary/academic source I found on Proquest that I'm examing to use for my fourth writing project. This is a sound byte of an interview in an archived NPR broadcast. It was published last year and has a blurb at the beginning depicting the situation. Because of these two factors I question the validity of the source as being primary, however, I believe that the content of the interview is very raw and beneficial for the direct context of the situation. This article supports my argument to further provide reparations for the descendants/inhabitants of Bruce's Beach. The article highlights evidence for unjust wrongings and how the eminent domain was an act of racism. I will use the article to elaborate the just cause for the community and LA County to do more to repay the homage they wrecked.

My Retrospective

 Over this past semester, I've been confronted with my inconsistent tendencies with every assignment, activity, and writing project. I've always known that I despised structured writing. In AP U.S History, I hated writing DBQ's. Researched-based essays felt shallow to me, and writing concisely was never my goal. I came into this semester off the kinetic energy fueling me from last semester-interpreting theatre design. In this class, I could be much more poetic, metaphorically complex, and use rhetoric to compliment the author's own usage. I consistently prioritize freedom, but at what cost? For this writing class, I risk my grade. Further than that, I risk understanding. I always want to challenge my audience, but for them to also understand the basic content I'm trying to convey.
